Dear Live Your Best Subscriber,
I want to begin by thanking you for your subscription-
It is wonderful to find so many people interested in
designing and living their best life!
Having worked in human growth and development for several
years, now, I've learned about the seven core principles
to Live Your Best!
1) Accept Yourself As You Are.
2) Align Your Actions With Your Intentions.
3) Have Strong Boundaries & High Standards.
4) Do What Makes You Happy.
5) Expand Your Opportunities.
6) Respect Others.
7) Live Fully In Each Moment.
We will explore each of these areas in upcoming issues. For
this month, we'll focus on looking back to plan ahead, to
make 2002 your best year yet!
Look for your next issue on January 15, 2002.
I wish you and yours a happy and vibrant holiday season!
Warmly,
Rachna

Looking Back to Plan Ahead: 2002 As Your Best Year Yet!

As we come to the end of another year, I'd like to invite you
to take a few minutes to look back over 2001 with the following
questions in mind:
* What were my three biggest successes for this year?
* What were my three biggest challenges for this year?
* What are my three top goals for 2002?
Many times, in reviewing the past, we tend to "skip" over
the times of joy and success- especially when we haven't
recently experienced a BIG event, like getting married,
having a child, getting a promotion, or buying a home.
No matter how "small" your successes may seem when compared
to these big life events, it is nevertheless important to keep
track of what you accomplished and how good this felt.
This is the first step in looking back. It enables you to
take a close look at what worked well for you in the past,
and can provide the foundation for your actions in the future.
(We'll get into that a bit more in a second.)
In looking over your three biggest challenges- what did you
notice? Were these challenges in your environment? Were
they related to dealing with people? Were they with working
too hard and being out of balance?
No matter where they were, these challenges, too, are an
important part of laying the foundation for a more successful
2002. They tell you what didn't work so well for you in the
past, and, therefore, point the way to areas for improvement.
Now that you have your three biggest successes and your three
biggest challenges, it's time to look ahead to your three
biggest goals.
To be most successful with your 2002 goals, you will want to
create goals that combine the best parts of your success to
help you successfully negotiate the challenges. Your goals
should answer the following questions: WHAT you are going
to do, and HOW you are going to do it.
Let's take the following example:
Success: Great presentation to a group of potential customers
Challenge: New business not growing as much as I'd like
Goal: To grow my business by speaking to x number of groups
per month
If you'll notice in this example, you'll find that the goal
(growing your business) combines working on your challenge
(that your new business is not growing as you would like)
by using your success (giving presentations). Your goal
answers WHAT you'll do (grow your business) and HOW
you'll do it (by speaking to so many groups per month)
Another example:
Success: I lost 25 lbs. this year by exercising
Challenge: I just can't lose this last 5 lbs!
Goal: To lose 5 lbs. by adding one day of exercise per week
Again, this example highlights combining your challenge
(can't lose the last 5 lbs.) with your success (exercising). The
goal, again, provides an answer to WHAT you'll do (lose 5
lbs.), and HOW you'll do it (by adding a day of exercise).
Too often, when we set goals, we leave out the "HOW" of what
we want to occur. By adding the "HOW", you will get your
mind and body working together to attain success easily.
You will also notice that each of these examples were very
specific (x number of groups per month, 1 day of exercise
per week)- the more specific you are, the easier it will be.
Why did we limit your 2002 goals to only 3? My clients have
found that limiting their goals in this way allows them
to really focus their energies. You can always choose more
goals after meeting your first ones!
Please remember: In order to live your best life, you want to
keep what works for you, and transform what doesn't!
See you next month!
