Playing: 5 tips in 5 minutes

Play! What does this word remind you of? Times from
your childhood? Maybe time spent with your kids?

When was the last time you played??

Why is play important? Well, first, and most
importantly, it's fun. And, next, it's good for you.
(Really, really, good for you.)

How can you get more play into your life?

1) Revisit your childhood.

Spend a few minutes reviewing what you loved to do
as a child. Was it climbing trees? Fishing? Swimming?
Making furniture forts? Camping in the backyard?

Whatever you used to do, pick 2-3 activities you
would like to bring back into your life. And then
start doing them!

2) Revisit adulthood.

Are there activities you'd really love to try
that you don't make time for? Pottery? Hiking?
Wine collecting?

This month, take an action to learn more
about an activity that interests you.

3) Leave open space in your schedule.

If you'd like to play and relax a bit more,
leave some open time to do so. Block out a
few hours to yourself this week. Make the
most of that time- do something fun.

4) Play with the kids.

If you don't have children, borrow them for a
few hours. Allow yourself to be absorbed in
spending time with them. It's often a lot
of fun to see the world from the perspective
of a child.

5) Find your "flow".

"Flow" is a state of optimal experience. What
gives you "flow"? Most often, flow can be found
when you're doing something you love- time seems
to stop, and you feel all absorbed in your task.
I find this, often, when I go rock-climbing.
Where do you find your "flow"?

Spend some time in "flow" this week.

So my five minutes are up- see you next month!
