Rachna's Note
November 2002
Dear Reader,
If you've been reading this newsletter for a while
you will have noticed a shift in format over the past
couple of months. I've been doing some experimenting :)
though I think we'll stick with this format for a while
now.
This month has been very busy for me, as my new book
has been published, and my business continues to grow
and flourish. I've been interviewed for several national
magazines & newspapers over this past month and invite
you to check these out -- I will send details, ongoing,
in future issues of this newsletter.
At the time of year where we give thanks for all the
blessings in our lives, I want to take a minute to thank
you for making "Live Your Best" a part of your life. We've
just passed the one year mark of publication, and it's exciting
to look ahead and think about where we'll be a year from now!
Take good care, have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and I'll see
you next month!
Warmly,
Rachna

"There are no shoulds for how you live your life."
Someone told me this a while ago- but I didn't believe her.
In fact, I resisted this idea with all my might. What did
she mean that there are no shoulds? I was supposed to be a
good person, to do the right things, to act the right way…
.....wasn't I?
It seemed particularly challenging for me, perhaps, because
I belong to a fairly traditional and conservative culture.
It seems, sometimes, that being Indian was always about what
you should do. (I've heard this from people in other Asian
cultures, too, so it might be more universal than I think.)
Anyway, what does it mean to live without shoulds? I think it
means that you realize that you are a powerful person with the
desire and capacity to create your life however you want. You
know that you are always changing and growing and that
sometimes, things that used to work for you, before,
somehow no longer fit.
When this happens, you go through some mental gymnastics-
"what's wrong with me?" but then, hopefully, you ultimately
decide that nothing's wrong with you- you've just changed.
By letting yourself change, you let yourself move away from
shoulds. And, therefore, into a life that is much richer,
more fulfilling, and more sustaining.
What is a "should" you could give up today? What would you
claim in doing so?
